Objectives of the Tata Steel Zoological Society

Our outreach efforts

Tata Steel Zoological Park, established in 1994, focuses on the conservation, education, and research of wildlife. Our mission is to serve as a dynamic center for education and science dedicated to enriching visitor experiences and cultivating an understanding of environmental stewardship. Through our advanced facilities, we nurture over 400 animals, including endangered and rare species, providing an ideal setting for their growth and well-being while educating the public about the importance of preserving natural habitats.

Research and Awareness

At Tata Steel Zoological Park, education and awareness initiatives are of paramount importance. Various programmes have been undertaken in association with students and adults. To achieve these objectives, we have created a nurturing environment in the park.

3. Indian Star Tortoise (Geochelone elegans) 2015-16 Roma Samantha Frequent death of animals after acquisition Observations and interpreted data resulted to control frequent death of species. Finding of the study was deposition of sugar in gut region. Subsequently regulation of sugar content in food was prescribed which helped in controlling mortality.
4. Diurnal Behavioral study of the cubs of Royal Bengal Tiger (Panthera tigris tigris) in captive condition 2018-19 Amlan Das Newly born cubs Observations of different parameters of diurnal behaviour of cubs in captivity concluded that ecological enrichment for the species plays a key role in bringing out of natural instinct.
5. Ethological study on African Lions (Panthera leo krugeri) with reference to the gestation period in lioness 2018-19 Ananya Dutta Suspected for pregnancy Lion was found to be pseudo -pregnant
